Richard Creswell

Biography

Richard Creswell is a postdoctoral researcher based in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford.

His research concerns the development and application of mathematical models, Bayesian inference, and machine learning methods to draw insights from biological and epidemiological data. He takes a particular interest in working with complex time series. Throughout his academic career he has collaborated extensively with mathematicians, biologists, government, and industry partners.

Richard obtained his D.Phil. in Computer Science from the University of Oxford in 2023.

Prior to his doctoral work, Richard studied Applied Physics (B.S., 2016) and Applied Mathematics (M.S., 2017) at Columbia University. The development of reusable scientific software is central to his research work, and he maintains long-standing involvements in the development of the PINTS Python library (for performing statistical inference) and several epidemiological software libraries developed at Oxford.
