Here in the UK, the COVID-19 pandemic revealed a higher prevalence and mortality in minority ethnic communities, in particular those of African and Caribbean descent. However, despite the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 in African diasporic communities, the rate of vaccine up take is lowest in these groups. The reasons for this have not been fully investigated but cannot be attributed solely to hesitancy.
At this seminar, Reuben Visiting Fellow Dr Donald Palmer discussed his research on the impact of age on immune function and how this led to developing tailored messaging when engaging with various communities.
