Dr Marielle Snel is a Senior Global Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist currently working for an international non-governmental organization (INGO) in the Middle East. She previously served as the WASH Advisor at Save the Children’s Regional Office in Amman, Jordan.
With over 20 years of global experience, Dr Snel has worked across humanitarian, transitional, and long-term WASH programming in Africa (10 years), Asia (9 years), and the Middle East (9 years). Her extensive career spans roles with implementing NGOs, international organizations, and government institutions. She has served as a WASH advisor for various entities, including the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a key sector think tank. Before her tenure at Save the Children, Dr Snel was the Regional WASH Advisor for World Vision in the Middle East, based in Cyprus. She has also worked with the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre in the Netherlands, the Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) at Loughborough University in the UK, and as an independent WASH consultant.
Dr Snel has published extensively on WASH issues, drawing on her field experience across multiple regions. One of her most recent co-authored publications is Climate Change and Water Scarcity in the Middle East: A Transitional Approach, published by Routledge.
