Jakub is a DPhil student in Clinical Medicine at Reuben College specialising in high-consequence emerging viruses.
Jakub completed his BSc in Biochemistry at Aberystwyth University, followed by a MSc in Precision Cancer Medicine at University of Oxford, also at Reuben College. During his MSc, Jakub completed important pre-clinical work in collaboration with an industrial partner, working on a candidate drug for lung cancer. Currently, Jakub works in the laboratory of Professor Miles Carroll, working on the Nipah virus.
Besides academia, Jakub is passionate for community outreach and public engagement. Jakub is a co-founder and director of Data Science Academy NGO, which aims to bring accessible education in data science and programming to students and researchers in Slovakia. At Reuben College, Jakub assumed the roles of GCR Secretary and co-captain of the Reuben Boat Club to help establish and grow our wonderful Reuben community.
Jakub is also invested in translation of science to business; he co-founded a boutique life science consultancy and consulted for public institutions and private enterprises in Central and Eastern Europe on scientific R&D and business development. Additionally, Jakub was also a Chief Scientific Officer in a start-up developing diagnostic modalities.
