Abdirashid Ahmed

Biography

Abdirashid Ahmed is an educator, school governor, and chair of trustees for a non-profit organization. He is currently pursuing a DPhil in Education at the University of Oxford's Department of Education and is affiliated with Reuben College.  

His research examines the role of Higher Education in Community Engagement, Reconciliation and Peacebuilding. He holds an MSc Education in Research Design and Methodology (RDM) from the University of Oxford, an MA from the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice (CENDEP) at Oxford Brookes University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Bolton, and a BA in Business Management from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

Abdirashid has extensive experience in teaching and international development in the UK and overseas, particularly in Kenya, Somalia and other regions in Sub-Saharan Africa. He has worked as a high school teacher in Dadaab, Kenya, and London, UK, and as well as a university lecturer in Somalia. Additionally, he has held various roles with International Development agencies, including Program Development, Education Program Coordination, and Monitoring and Evaluation Expert.

His research interests include International Development, Education in Emergencies (EiE), Refugee Education, and he is keen in exploring intersections between education, conflict, and peacebuilding. He is keen on innovative approaches to improving access, equity, and quality of education for fragile states and societies recovering from conflict.
