Reuben College Governing Body Fellow, Dr JC Niala, will publish The New Eden: Wildlife in the City and Discovering Our Shared Home on 12 March 2026.
Combining memoir, social history, and cultural commentary, the book invites readers to reconsider cities not just as human domains, but as places where nature is always present and continuously adapting.
Drawing on her experiences of life in cities across the globe, Dr Niala offers a powerful exploration of city life and of what it means to live with nature rather than simply in it.
Dr Niala notes:
Publishing the book has already been an amazing experience. Nature writers are such a warm and welcoming community, and I’ve felt genuinely supported by them. I hope the book helps to widen the conversation around the fact that nature and cities have always been intertwined, and will continue to be so into a better future. That’s something we can actively shape and make happen.
