University bestows highest recognition to Reuben College Benefactors

Reuben College benefactors Simon and David Reuben have been awarded the University of Oxford’s Sheldon Medal in recognition of their generous support for the College.

At a special event held at the Oxford Martin School on 27 October 2022, the brothers were presented with the medal – the University’s highest mark of distinction - by The Rt Hon Lord Patten of Barnes, CH, Chancellor of the University of Oxford. Also in attendance were Professor Dame Louise Richardson DBE, Vice Chancellor of the University and Professor Lionel Tarassenko CBE FREng FMedSci, President of Reuben College. Following the presentation, a celebratory dinner was held at the Divinity School.

Professor Tarassenko spoke at the event before the medals were presented to the Reuben brothers by the Chancellor and said: “From the moment that the plans for the college and its academic themes for the 21st century were put to them in the summer of 2019, the Trustees of the Reuben Foundation have been extremely supportive of the college. It is very important to us as a college to know that Simon and David Reuben share our vision for a 21st-century college in a 900-year-old University. The Governing Body of Reuben College is enormously grateful to have such generous, supportive, and visionary donors.”
