Stephen Purbrick to join Reuben College as Bursar

Reuben College is delighted to announce that Stephen Purbrick will be joining the College in November 2022 as Bursar. His appointment is wonderful news for the College, and we look forward to Stephen's engagement in all aspects of College life. In his own words:

The first thing to say is that I'm hugely pleased and excited to be joining Reuben College at this time.  It's not ever day that the University establishes an new Graduate College and to be part of that from the early days is a real privilege.  A few words about myself - I've been with the University since 2000, as the finance lead in the newly created Medical Sciences Division.  I spent much of my time there talking to people, building my understanding of what they did and building systems and reports to ensure that they had the right information to enable them to make informed decisions.

After a few years I moved to the central University to be Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, another new position, with responsibility for the University's overall planning, budgeting and forecasting.  During my time in the role I've had extensive experience of communicating to a wide range of people, from formal committees to informal staff briefings and training sessions.  I've also had the opportunity to be involved in a range of interesting University building and IT projects and have seen first-hand how challenging these large projects can be.  A recent secondment to another department gave me experience of leading non-finance teams and confirmed that I wanted to move into a role with a broader range of responsibilities.

One of the key attractions of the Bursar role is the opportunity to be part of a growing college community and in particular to work closely with its students and fellows.  I was fortunate to be invited to one of Reuben's Dining with Dinosaurs events earlier in the year and was impressed by the energy and enthusiasm that everyone brought to the evening.
