Felix Rawlinson (MSc in Genomic Medicine) and Lilli Freischem (DPhil in Atmospheric Physics) will become the first male and female Reuben College students to ever row in the Blue Boats at the historic Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race this Sunday.
For Felix, who began rowing for Oxford this academic year, the opportunity to represent both the University and Reuben on such a stage is a proud milestone:
It means a lot to be the first man selected in Reuben history to row in the Boat Race. Reuben's dining hall has fuelled me up every Monday and kept me going in the winter months! So, I'm thankful for all the Reuben teachers, staff and students that have got me to this point.
Lilli is no stranger to The Boat Race, having represented Oxford for the last two years in Women’s Reserve Boat, including the 2024 win. On being selected for this year’s Oxford Women’s Blue Boat, she says:
It’s an absolute honour to represent the University and Reuben at The Boat Race, and being the first woman in Reuben history to be selected for the Blue Boat makes it extra special.
You can tune in to BBC One on Sunday 13 April for coverage of the event, with the women’s and men’s races set to respectively start at 13:21 and 14:21.
The day’s races will also be available to watch on The Boat Race Youtube channel.
