Rayhan Asat, a Uyghur human rights advocate, lawyer and now Reuben College scholar has recently been named in Vox’s ‘Future Perfect 50’ list which celebrates fifty “scientists, thinkers, scholars, writer’s and activists building a more perfect future” (Walsh, 2022). According to Vox, the list aims to highlight those individuals who embody the values of Future Perfect in asking how to make the world a better place for everyone.
Rayhan, who has recently commenced the Master in Public Policy at the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government, previously trained at Harvard Law School and practised as an anti-corruption attorney at a major U.S. law firm. Born and raised in Xinjiang in northwestern China and a member of the Uyghur ethic minority, she has now become a leading figure in the campaign against China’s genocide in Xinjiang after her brother Ekpar was taken captive by China in 2016. As a result of her work, Rayhan is a sought-after speaker at national and frequent speaker at national and international law conferences.
