Reuben College hosts first annual Insights Festival

On 2nd July 2022, the Reuben community gathered at the Maison Française in north Oxford to celebrate the end of our first academic year with students at our Insights Festival.

As a college that prides itself on its intentional approach interdisciplinarity, it felt fitting to create an event that celebrates the breadth of research of our students and fellows. The afternoon began with a panel discussion on ‘What does the future hold for humanity?’, a question chosen by our GCR Academic Reps. Four students and three fellows, whose work spans the breadth of Reuben’s research themes, presented their views on this vast question and responded to questions from an enthusiastic audience.

Afterwards, over 20 of our students and fellows presented their research in an interactive poster session. Some people used the traditional poster style for sharing their work, but others sang songs about Covid vaccines, asked questions about identity and belonging, and asked attendees to ‘connect the points’ about factors impacting inequalities. These ranged from biochemistry to teaching, sociology to computer science, and was a true celebration of the diversity of research happening within the College.
