Reuben Boat Club competes in Newnham Head Race

After a few months of red flag restrictions on the Isis, Reuben rowers were eager to finally clash blades on the water. Little did we know that the first race of the newest Oxford college would be… on the river Cam! Hosted by our friends from Lucy Cavendish College Boat Club, Cambridge, Reuben Boat Club fielded two boats in the Newnham Head race.

The women's crew stole the show, claiming the first place in the invitational entry category. They were even faster than the international competitors from HEC business school, Paris. A huge thank you to the four Lady Margaret Hall athletes who heroically supported the Reuben team by stepping in last minute to save the boat.

While the men's (open) boat fell short of gold, they still managed to overtake several Cambridge crews (a victory in itself). Our hosts offered us an extra training day on the Cam, allowing both crews to refine the technique and work with coaches to address any shortcomings from the race.

Torpids (the main rowing event of Hilary) are just around the corner – stay turned for more Reuben Boat Club news!
