Professor Tarassenko CBE FREng FMedSci was appointed a 'Chevalier dans l'Ordre national du Mérite' by President Macron of France on 12th July. This award recognises his contribution to Franco-British scientific relations, both during his time as Head of the Head of Engineering Science Department and as Chair of the Oxford Committee for the Maison française d'Oxford. He will receive the award from the French Ambassador to the UK at a ceremony later on this term.
Professor Tarassenko said: “It is a great honour for me to be given this distinction by the country of my birth. Over the last decade, I have worked very closely with the past and current Directors of the Maison française d'Oxford to strengthen the scientific and cultural ties which unite France and Britain. In our post-Brexit world, this is more important than ever.”
