Ellen Moilanen

We are deeply saddened to share news of the death of Ellen Moilanen née Tham , our Academic Administrator, on 8th February 2022.

Ellen was with Reuben more-or-less since its inception. Her contributions to the development of Reuben College in our initial year were nothing short of monumental, and she consistently went above and beyond to support our community.

Ellen will be fondly remembered as a friend to all, resourceful, funny, kind, to the point, and endlessly patient. Never could the college expect to have been blessed with such a wonderful colleague, and never could we have dreamt she be taken so suddenly. Our thoughts are with her husband Karo, family, friends and with all those for whom and with whom she worked so happily.

Ellen's sister Elli writes, 'My sister loved her birds. She has spend considerable time and money in making her garden a little haven for her family of black birds, sparrows, starlings, robins, blue tits,  pigeons, wood pigeons and crows since she moved into her house in 2015. She has spend many hours just sitting in her dining room table delighting in the little fights and dramas those birds go through on a daily basis, year after year. In her memory, it seems fitting to donate to a charity that ensures the future of these wonderful birds, to make sure that they will keep having their little tiffs and dramas for many generations to come. I have created a Just Giving page in Ellen's memory with the donations going to the RSPB which I think is a fitting charity protecting the birds that my sister loved so much.'
